The Green in Good Faith team focuses on caring for creation at Faith Lutheran and Journey in Faith. We want to help members, the community and the EaND Synod lessen their footprint on the earth through the 5R’s: Reconsider, Recycle, Reuse, Redistribute, and Reduce. This translates into fewer items in landfills and improved use of natural resources. We are also concerned about clean air and water.
Team projects have included:
- Purchasing recycling bins for aluminum cans, office paper, plastic bottles, glass and tin cans.
- To encourage the purchase of environmentally sound products.
- Collecting cell phones, ink cartridges, prescription pill bottles, eyeglasses and greeting cards.
- Building a recycling trailer to deliver items to the recycling center.
- Featuring the recycling trailer in the West Fest Parade, pulled by a, (you guessed it) restored 1950 Ford pickup.
- Using non-disposable plates and silverware at church to prevent plastic and Styrofoam items from entering the landfill.
- Participating in planning for the fall Creation Series and Earth Day.
- Sponsoring occasional informational “green” displays at church to inform and educate.
- Providing multimedia presentations to large and small groups interested in care of creation.
We are making a difference and there is more to do. Won’t you join us in caring for creation?
